Archive.London is committed to responsible stewardship, accurate description and lawful publication. This policy explains how to raise concerns about copyright, privacy, identification, captions, provenance, sensitive material or other rights.
What may be reported
You may contact us if you believe:
- You own rights in material displayed without permission.
- You are depicted and publication creates a significant privacy or safety concern.
- A person, place, date, event, object, brand or ownership history is wrongly identified.
- A caption is defamatory, misleading or culturally insensitive.
- Sensitive personal information has been disclosed.
- A credit or provenance statement is incomplete.
- A technical or accessibility issue prevents you from understanding or challenging content.
How to submit a request
Email info@825ventures.online with the subject Rights or correction request and include:
- Your full name and contact details.
- Your relationship to the material or person concerned.
- The exact Archive.London URL.
- A clear description of the concern.
- The outcome requested.
- Evidence supporting identity, authority, rights or correction.
- Any urgency, safety or court deadline.
Send only necessary information. You may redact irrelevant confidential details. If ordinary email is unsuitable, ask us for a more secure route before sending sensitive evidence.
Representatives should provide evidence of authority. Copyright agents should identify the protected work, the challenged material and the basis of ownership or authority.
Our review
We will acknowledge a sufficiently detailed request within a reasonable period and assess:
- The identity and authority of the requester.
- The rights claimed.
- The source, nature and context of the material.
- Copyright ownership and licensing history.
- Privacy, data-protection and freedom-of-expression considerations.
- Historical, artistic, journalistic and archival value.
- Public availability elsewhere.
- Harm, sensitivity, accuracy and proportionality.
- Whether qualification, correction, restricted access or removal is appropriate.
We may temporarily restrict material during review where the apparent risk justifies it. Temporary restriction is not an admission of liability.
Possible outcomes
Depending on the evidence and law, we may:
- Correct or expand a caption.
- Add an uncertainty or provenance note.
- Correct structured data and search metadata.
- Change the displayed crop or preview.
- Restrict high-resolution access or sensitive uses.
- Remove a page or image from public view.
- Decline the request with reasons.
- Ask for further evidence.
- Preserve the material internally for legal, archival or audit purposes even if public access is restricted.
A disagreement about a historic fact will not always justify removal. A less restrictive correction or qualification may be more appropriate.
False or abusive claims
Do not submit claims that are knowingly false, deceptive or intended to suppress lawful historical material. We may reject abusive or repetitive requests and preserve information needed to protect legal rights.
Search caches and third parties
If material is removed or corrected, search engines, archives and third parties may retain earlier copies outside our control. We will take reasonable steps within our control, but cannot guarantee immediate removal from third-party systems.
Personal data
We process request information as described in the Privacy Notice. We may share relevant information with advisers, rights holders, publishers, authorities or affected parties where necessary and lawful.
Review and complaints
If you disagree with an outcome, reply with specific reasons and any additional evidence. Data-protection complaints may also be made to the Information Commissioner's Office. Nothing in this policy restricts legal rights or remedies.
