Accessibility Statement

Read Archive.London's accessibility statement, published by 825 Ventures Ltd for visitors, researchers and image licensing enquiries.

Last updated: 19 September 2026

Archive.London wants its photographic and editorial material to be available to the widest practical audience. We aim to make the website perceivable, operable, understandable and robust, while preserving the integrity of the photographs.

Our approach

We aim to provide:

  • Keyboard-accessible navigation and controls.
  • Visible focus indicators.
  • Logical page headings and landmarks.
  • Sufficient colour contrast.
  • Text alternatives for meaningful images.
  • Captions that provide authorship and context.
  • Zoom and responsive layouts without loss of content.
  • Reduced-motion support.
  • Forms with clear labels, instructions and errors.
  • Links whose purpose is understandable from their wording and context.

Alt text describes the visible content and purpose of an image. It does not replace the full caption, reproduce every visual detail or assert an identity that has not been verified.

Known limitations

An historical photographic archive presents particular challenges. Some images may contain text that is difficult to transcribe, uncertain subjects, complex visual detail or analogue damage. Older third-party documents may not be fully accessible. Restricted research material may require a tailored delivery method.

We prioritise improvements according to user impact, frequency and feasibility. A limitation is not treated as permanent merely because it is listed.

Requesting an alternative

If you need information in another format, encounter a barrier or require help identifying archive material, contact info@825ventures.online. Please include the page URL, the difficulty encountered, your preferred format and any relevant assistive technology. We will respond within a reasonable period.

Reporting a problem

We welcome specific accessibility feedback. We may ask follow-up questions to reproduce the issue. Do not send unnecessary medical information.

Technical target

The website should be developed and tested against WCAG 2.2 Level AA where reasonably applicable. Accessibility should be reviewed whenever navigation, image presentation, search, forms or consent tools materially change.

This statement does not claim complete conformance unless a current audit supports that claim.
