Descriptions and evidence
Archive.London is the home of the Robert Harper Photograph Library. Public collection descriptions draw on supplied editorial material and catalogue records. Catalogue totals distinguish unique photographs from frames and variants. Collections can overlap, so their figures must not be added together to estimate the whole archive.
Names, dates and places
A name in an inventory can be a research lead rather than a verified identification. Where an attribution, spelling, ownership association, date or location remains uncertain, the public description retains that qualification. A photographed brand or product does not, by itself, establish a client commission or endorsement.
Captions describe visible subjects when further identification is unavailable. Research may refine a caption as evidence improves. No personal identity is inferred solely from appearance.
Corrections and research
Please send the canonical page link, the wording in question and a concise account of the proposed correction to the archive contact. Supporting references are welcome. Please enquire before sending private or sensitive evidence. Corrections are assessed against the catalogue and available documentation before publication.
