Ownership and reservation of rights
The Robert Harper Photograph Library, including its photographs and associated materials, is protected by copyright and other rights. 825 Ventures Ltd is the archive's present owner and commercial rights steward under the rights it holds.
The Archive.London website, editorial writing, scans, digital restorations, thumbnails, metadata, catalogue descriptions, selection and arrangement, taxonomies, indexes, databases, designs, logos and software may be protected by copyright, database right, trade mark law, confidentiality and other rights.
Unless expressly stated otherwise:
Copyright and database rights reserved. © 825 Ventures Ltd. All rights reserved.
The credit for photographs should normally read:
Photograph by Robert Harper. Robert Harper Photograph Library, Archive.London.
The presence of a copyright notice is not a condition of protection.
No public-domain dedication
Making a preview, thumbnail, caption or catalogue record available online does not place it in the public domain and does not waive any right. Low resolution, watermarked and unwatermarked previews remain protected.
No licence arises through browsing, search indexing, linking, quoting metadata, sending an enquiry or receiving a non-final preview.
Uses requiring permission
Subject to applicable legal exceptions, prior written permission is required to:
- Reproduce or publish a photograph.
- Download or retain image files outside ordinary transient browser operation.
- Distribute, sell, syndicate, broadcast, exhibit or communicate material to the public.
- Use material in print, websites, apps, social media, advertising, packaging, merchandise, film, television, exhibitions, presentations or datasets.
- Crop, retouch, colourise, composite, animate, adapt or create derivative material.
- Remove a credit, watermark, identifier, metadata field or rights notice.
- Use content for machine learning, artificial-intelligence training, fine-tuning, evaluation, embedding generation, computer vision, facial recognition or dataset creation.
- Systematically extract or reutilise all or a substantial part of a database, or repeatedly extract insubstantial parts in a manner that conflicts with database rights.
Legal exceptions
Nothing in this notice removes a right or exception that applies under law. Whether an exception such as quotation, criticism, review, news reporting, research or private study applies depends on the facts and legal requirements, including fairness, purpose, extent and sufficient acknowledgement.
Archive.London cannot provide legal advice about whether a proposed unlicensed use is lawful. A user relying on an exception is responsible for that assessment.
Search engines and automated systems
Ordinary search-engine indexing is governed by our published technical crawler directives and website terms. Permission for search discovery is not permission for commercial extraction, model training, dataset building or republication.
Automated agents must comply with robots directives, rate limits, the Website Terms of Use and the Acceptable Use Policy. Technical accessibility does not equal legal permission.
Third-party rights
A photograph may depict people, artworks, designs, trade marks, buildings, property or other protected material. Our ownership or control of copyright in the photograph does not necessarily include every separate right relevant to a proposed use.
Unless a written licence expressly states otherwise, the licensee is responsible for obtaining permissions and clearances required for its particular use, including publicity, privacy, trade mark, artwork, design, music, property and advertising clearances.
Reporting suspected infringement
Report suspected unauthorised use to info@825ventures.online with the Archive.London page, the location of the suspected use, screenshots, dates and any other useful evidence.
Do not submit knowingly false or misleading allegations. Rights claims concerning material displayed by Archive.London should follow the Rights Claims, Takedown and Corrections Policy.
