Parties, where objects wait for people to misbehave

Before the guests arrive, a party is a beautifully organised theory. Glasses align, decorations behave and every napkin believes the evening will remain civilised.

Robert Harper's dedicated party folder contains 25 unique photographs across 57 frames. Party goods and an office celebration form a small collection connected to much larger holdings of drinks, food, candles, gifts and tableware.

The social still life

Harper understood how objects imply company. A cocktail shaker, group of glasses or festive decoration can suggest conversation without showing a single guest.

His magazine experience gave these arrangements polish, while the office-party material moves from preparation into lived social history. Clothing, interiors and expressions can place an event in its period with delightful speed.

The dedicated collection connects to the wider entertaining material. Its count remains separate from the food, drinks, candles and tableware holdings.
